Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi wa Barakatuh.
IIUM is a great place for Ramadhan. This is what I feel since my first Ramadhan experience in IIUM.
When the last tenth day of Ramadhan, mosque of IIUM will be a very busy place. We can see students, from various races, languages, colours, in mosque. We can see also lecturers. They bring along pillow, blanket. Why?
Because they want to perform I’tikaf. It is a sunnah of Prophet Muhammad Sallallahu Alaihi wassalam.
I also take this chance to join, I bring along all my books, my blanker, my clothes. I will only get back to mahallah when I need to wash my clothes.
Every night, at 4 am, I will perform solat Terawikh and witir 11 rakaat untuk 5 am. I can feel the difference between praying at the early of night and at the end of night. You will cry easily when pray at this time.
I hope I can do it again this Ramadhan. Will I be able to do it.
Mosque authority since last short sem has prohibited student from sleeping in mosque. I hope this will not happen during the last tenth day of Ramadhan for this year.
Wallahua’lam.

Assalamualaikum wbt.
Yup. I still remember during my earlier years in IIUM, IIUM Mosque was my second home during exam period.
But now? Even during Ramadhan, no more sleeping in the IIUM Mosque. In fact, you need to leave the place as early as 11.30 pm.
Aiyoo…
i don’t think they will chase out anyone during the final ten days of the month.
most of the people i met said that they will sleep at the most no matter what. who can stop us from gaining the great rewards of ramadhan, especially for the finalle period.
when else can we get this chance?
this is really one of the small sign of fitnah when people are strained from practicing the sunnah even in an ‘islamic’ university..
i have suggested to src to maybe conduct a petition or deal directly with the shah’s mosque office management. maybe they have got some answers..? or anything?
if not. then guys, just don’t hesitate. let us continue this beautiful heritage of the religion. it is a very calm and beatiful scenery seeing lots of people gathering at the mosque trying to seek god’s pleasure throughout the night till fajr.. don’t miss it!
allahu a’lam
it is sad to know that we, the students of IIUM itself are prohibited to ‘hang around’ in that big mosque after 11. and no more i’tikaf during ramadhan.
what’s the point of having one of we can’t use it. cannot facilitate it. it is awkward. you know what i mean.
in deed we can sleep in the masjid, but with permission. just go to the office and fill up a form (but for sure it is a bit ‘red tape’)
i know many students, (including me myself) complaint about this so-called wierd rule.
the masjid authority said that they have to make this rule because of cleanliness reason.
i’m not sure whether it does make sense or not.
Maybe we ourselves should change our way, because in the masjid, it IS very obvious that students are very unaware to care about the cleanliness. you can find rubbish, leftover food, biscuits wrappers etc easily (in muslimat area).
Hopefully the masjid will ‘ammend’ the rule ASAP. n may the students will utilize the facilities given smartly and without ignoring what they must bear in mind, OUR MASJID OUR HOME.
obviously, even if we get the permission from the office of the masjid. still, we aren’t allowed to sleep at the praying hall.
cleanliness. yes, it might be about cleanliness. but it is relevant to put the masjid ‘off’ after 11 everyday? and i mean, everyday?
it such an ‘absurd excuse’. really.
for ukht sajida,
bureaucracy is not the main reason why we want to criticize. me, I’ve faced it a lot of time before in UIA. more than I can remember.
we just want the masjid be like it should be. what’s wrong with all the people sitting and sleeping in masjid. at least it is better than loafing around doing something bad. I still doubt that the cleanliness is the major issue.
p.s: if the masjid didn’t want to amend the rules, so let it be. but please, at least, give us the chance for the last 10. right?

Alhamdulilah, mosque authority has decided to allow us to i’tikaf in the last tenth day of Ramadhan.
We hope that mosque authority will change rule which disallows student to be in mosque after 11 pm. I’tikaf is not only sunnah during last tenth day of Ramadhan, sometimes there are people who make neazar to do I;tikaf etc.
Cleanliness is important. We hope all of us will co operate to ensure the cleanliness of mosque.
Don’t make it as your home lah bcoz we don’t how your home is.
Mosque has provided place to hang our cloth, so don’t juz hang it wherever we wish, this is not our home.
For females students, the mosque authority has decided to allow them to sleep in travelers room during the last tenth day of Ramadhan. But juz remember, sleep in those rooms is not considered as i’tikaf ye. The authority said it is for security reason.
Hopefully, we can grab this chance, I don’t know whether I can join or not bcoz my sister is alone at home.
For sisters, I’tikaf is also sunnah for sisters, the wives of Rasulullah saw also did i’tikaf.
Sahur is provided.
And if we want to do perfect i’tikaf, we are not allowed to go out of mosque without any reason. If we have things to do outsite mosque, we must come back to mosque when we have finished our business.
For brothers, Mahallah Zubair will also organize I’tikaf there (I am not sure whether it can be considered as I’tikaf bcoz it is not Masjid Jami’). Plz grab this chance to gain knowledge bcoz Majlis Ilmu will be held there, suhur n ifthar r provided.

I think cleanliness issue is a big problem among Muslimat in mosque. Sorry to say this, at my village’s mosque, inside women area, you can find tissues, papers. I don’t know what they do inside there, they r praying or what?
yes, it does sound fallacious by saying that cleanliness is among the reasons of that new rule ammendment.
anyway, i heard a friend said that for the last 10 days of Ramadhan, we can sleep in the mosque even without permission. Is it…?
it really sounds ‘tak sesuay’ when we are to seek permission from the masjid, MASJID SHOULD BE OPENED FOR ALL.. everytime.
o ALLAH, plz help us…
asl wbt
yup special 4 these last tenth days, no permission needed
For brothers, Mahallah Zubair will also organize I’tikaf there (I am not sure whether it can be considered as I’tikaf bcoz it is not Masjid Jami’). Plz grab this chance to gain knowledge bcoz Majlis Ilmu will be held there, suhur n ifthar r provided.

i don’t think that they’re planning to organize i’tikaf in the sense of i’tikaf itself.
maybe what they mean by it, is to sleep together at the musolla, doing ibadah together, having tadzkirah etc. but not i’tikaf i think.
p.s: i’tikaf only at 3 masjid only (al-haram, an-nabawi, al-aqsa). i put this as strongest opinion, for me personally.

i can’t agree more on that. it is awkward. right?
hope that all of us can concentrate for the last 10 days of ramadhan and find the malam 1000 bulan. insya Allah.
