Students keep on complaining about our dearest IIUM clinic. People having bad experience, wrong medication been given, treatments etc. During my time in foundation centre, it’s hard to go out when you sick and only medical certificate from IIUM clinic would be accepted.
Thus students will be going to the IIUM’s clinic especially when they had bad fever. Doctors gave them cough syrup which have sedative effect but dun wanna give MC. Those students end up not going to classes cause they were too sleepy. And lecturers curse them. Huhu.
There is one particular time when I had tonsilitis but the doctor keep on giving wrong medication, when I became worst she keep on changing the medication. Huhu. Until the time when I’m became very ill and need to be sent to the hospital because of her. And missed 2 papers of my final examination.
This is what my friends and I have gone through. Im not sure about others..
When I’m here in Kuantan, students complaining on doctors which is not there in their rooms during consultation hours. But dont you think doctors must be there especially at night coz we wont know if any emergency condition occurs. But luckily those people got cars and could send their friends to the hospital.
During the day, it’s also hard to meet the doctors. I always need to go to the clinic outside IIUM, so do my fellow friends. And I do remember one day when I got high fever, and went to this one clinic outside IIUM, the doctor ask me why I didnt go to IIUM’s clinic.
In fact, the doctor in charge werent there even during consultation hour. thus my doctor quickly call IIUM clinic and inform the staff nurse to have the doctor in because students need them.
Even it is during the day, if anything emergency happened such as accident inside the campus etc, people wont go to the IIUM’s clinic coz they know they would just wasting their time. They will quickly went to the hospital.
Two years studying in IIUM Kuantan, never I have the chance to get treatment in IIUM’s clinic. I wonder what is the use of paying the medical fees every semester. In fact money is not the matter, and I admit they are very kind, but attitude and responsibility always come first.
Above are all from my experience. I dont know what you guys had face. Maybe it’s only me who face these things. If you have any experience, let your view be shared here. Also those in Gombak campus.
Maybe SRC could help us? If something already been done, thanks lots.

I’ve a different story than yours. For the past 4 years in Gombak, I’ll always go to the clinic. Never been to outside clinic because I know my rights as student who paid the medical fee.
I know waiting is boring and tiresome but at times the treatment is OK also. Never experienced the incident where there’s no doctor during consultation. At least there will be one doctor even during lunch hours.
Regarding the medicine, sometime they only give common meds but if its necessary, they will also give the expensive one.
I’ll always remember the verse on the pill packaging, “When I’m ill, it is He who cures me”.

Salam,
It has been like almost 11 years since I left our beloved IIUM, while other things change, apparently it is the same old new story for the Clinic. I was once had fever treatment from the clinic, the doctor prescribed me with the medicine and I did not wake up from my bed for the next 1.5 days !!!
I still remember vividly the incident. It was on Thursday of my 2nd year during summer classes. I had a fever and went to the clinic and after taking the medicine I went to bed to have a good rest. Then, I woke up in the afternoon, thinking it was Friday, and prepared myself to go for Friday prayer.
On the way ,one of my friend asked me; “Where were you thinking going to ?”
I replied ; ” Of course Friday prayer “.
My friend ; ” You must be joking. Today is Saturday afternoon !”
” Is it ? ” my only replied to him.
There were so many incidents in between, and I was sick like a dog. It went from bad to worse during weekend until I got ” kancing gigi”, the first time in my life. Until, I paid a visit to a clinic in Bangsar, KL. Ironically, Alhamdulillah since that incident I rarely have fever till today. I guess , the experience that I have had to endure strengthen my body immune system..my guess
..Anyone can vouch?
Pernah seorang rakan mendapatkan rawatan di klinik IIUM,
doktor kata ruam2…
Tapi sebab dia ni ada duit lebih dan transport,
dia pegi la klinik luar,
untuk diberitahu die diagnosed chicken pox!
Aku kadang2 terpaksa pegi klinik uia sebab malas nak beli ubat,
nak ubat free…
Tapi setakat aku pergi, memang doktornya acuh tak acuh je melayan student.
Mungkin dalam kepala meraka student datang nak mintak MC semata2!
Jahat!
Been in IIUM since 2000 as an undergrad student until now (as a staff), I always heard rumors, but alhamdulillah never experienced bad lucks as yours.
I always get my treatment from cough, fever, blood test @ IIUM Clinic, so far Ok lah.. of course if it’s cough you have to expect taking those sleepy medication at night.
I was very sleepy.. but still managed to get off from bed on time.
dear friend
the clinic was good for me, always got the treatment that i want. sometimes i just go n tapau whatever medications that i need from the nurses.
perhaps it’s just not your day…
p/s: i dont think uia ktn can afford to provide a doctor for the ‘oncall’ at the clinic, coz the standard rate for on calls set by the gov at their clinic is RM 80 per hour, so just imagine how much uia have to pay per night and permonth and per year to have a doctor at the clinic around the clock. The sum would really went far beyond our medical fees. If there’s such thing, I would love to work in UIA Clinic, coz currently my oncall only worth RM 100 for a whole sleepless night =(
kwn2,
tibe2 rase nak nyampuk. spanjang blaja kat uia aku pnh gi skali je kat klinik tu. alhamdulillah aku jarang sakit. tp ari tu aku betul2 perlu dptkn ubat sbb ceri beri.slh mkn agaknye.hehe.aku mtk mc tp dokte x bg. ok la xpe. tp yg aku x thn sbb dokte pompuan mude yg grad uia jgk tu toce2 mental aku. die kate “awk ni sakit skit pun nak dtg klinik. awk tau x,sy spanjang blaja dlu x pnh skali pun pegi klinik”. pastu die tulis2 kat kad aku sambil bebel2 lg sampai aku mcm mls nak dengar.aih, aku yg sakit betambah sakit (perut + jiwe rage)
sepatutnye..org2 profesional ni jg la adab.jgn sbb kite ni pesakit yg lebih rendah tarafnye bebanding die yg da jd dokte, dihormati plak tu terasa hebat n x pyh ssh2 nak jg ht org lain.kurang2 pun jg la amanah Allah baik2. kalau Dia nak tarik, sekelip mata je kite leh hdup dlm penyesalan.
