KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 5 (Bernama) — The Permata programme allocates RM663,345 to the Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia (UIAM) Educare Permata kindergarten to implement the Permata curriculum and upgrade learning facilities there, the Prime Minister’s wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor said Thursday.

She said teachers at the kindergarten would be sent for a four-week basic Permata course at UIAM to enable them to implement the Permata curriculum more effectively.

Rosmah, who is National Permata Policy Executive Committee chairman, said the move was to prove the government’s commitment in providing better and comprehensive early education and care for children.

She said this in her speech when opening the UIAM Educare Permata kindergarten and presentation of education aid from the Association of Wives of Ministers and Deputy Ministers (Bakti) at the UIAM campus in Gombak, near here.

At the function, Rosmah, who is also Bakti president, presented a cheque for RM10,000 to UIAM students.

According to her, until October this year, Bakti had contributed RM1.17 million in bursaries for poor students.

Bakti President Datin Paduka Seri Rosmah Mansor urged International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) stuents to work hard in order to achieve success in future.

“Education is the best element for social mobility to change and upgrade a person from poor family to become better family” she said after presenting cheque from Bakti to IIUM students and launching of “IIUM Educare Permata” in IIUM on 5th November 2009.

She added, “This is because the students whose parents as farmers, rubber tapers, fishermen and labourers can be professionals once they are graduated from institutions of higher learning.”

Datin Paduka Seri Rosmah was also impressed with the development of IIUM Educare Permata, started with 60 children in 1995 in Petaling Jaya and now it has 630 children.
