
KUALA LUMPUR: The International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) won 10 awards comprising a gold, four silver and five bronze at the BioMalaysia 2009 held here last week.
An IIUM public relations department spoke-sman said among the winners was Assoc Prof Zahangir Alam of the Kulliyyah of Engineering.
His invention, titled “Separations of Citric and Acid Obtained by Solid State Bioconversion of Oil Palm Empty Fruit Bunches”, won the gold while his other invention, “Cellulases from Palm Oil Mill Effluent” won the silver at the event held from last Tuesday to Thursday.
Dr Muhammad Tari-qur Rahman of the Kulliyah of Sciences brought back two silver awards for IIUM.
Another silver award winner was Assoc Prof Dr Parveen Jamal of the Kulliyyah of Engineering.
Assoc Prof Dr Maizirwan Mel of the Kulliyyah of Engineering won two bronze medals.
Other bronze winners were Prof Dr Jamaluddin Mohd Daud of the Kulliyah of Sciences, Dr Muhammad Nor Omar also of the Kulliyyah of Sciences and Assoc Prof Dr Iis Sopyan of the Kulliyyah of Engineering. — Bernama
