
KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 21 (Bernama) — Tokoh Maal Hijrah 1431H Prof Dr Yusuf Abdullah Ali Al-Qaradawi has given RM40,000 to the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) Endowment Fund Foundation.
Dr Al-Qaradawi who is also International Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS) president made the contribution before leaving for Riyadh, Saudi Arabia Monday.
An Islamic Development Department (Jakim) statement said today Al-Qaradawi gave the money to IIUM Rector Prof Datuk Seri Dr Syed Arabi Idid witnessed by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Jamil Khir Baharom.
Others present at KL International Airport (KLIA) in Sepang were Jakim Director-General Datuk Wan Mohamad Datuk Sheikh Abdul Aziz and National Fatwa Council chairman Prof Datuk Dr Abdul Shukor Husin.
Dr Al-Qaradawi thanked the Malaysian government and Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak for awarding him Tokoh Maal Hijrah and prayed for the country’s progress and peace.
On behalf of the Malaysian government, Jamil Khir thanked Dr Al-Qaradawi for coming here as guest and prayed for his health.
Najib who received Dr Al-Qaradawi at his office at noon hoped to meet the renowned scholar next year and would deliver a talk at his official residence.
