Malaysia Capable to be the Centre for Arabic Language and Literature Development

International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) is confident that Malaysia is capable of becoming a centre for the spread and development of Arabic literature in this region, said Religious Advisor to the Prime Minister, Datuk Dr. Abdullah Md Zin.

He said that the enormous support from other Muslim countries shows their utmost confidence towards Malaysia’s efforts, at the 2nd Islamic Conference of Arabic Language & Literature (ICALL) in IIUM Gombak, on 21st December, 2009.

Also present were the IIUM Rector, Prof. Dato’ Sri Dr. Syed Arabi Idid, Dean of Kuliyyah Islamic Revealed Knowledge & Human Sciences, Dr. Badri Najib Zubir, and the chairman of ICALL, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Abdul Rahman Chik.

Abdullah said that the opportunity for Malaysia to become the centre for Arabic Language & Literature Development is wide, with programs like Jawi, al- Quran, Arabic, and Fardhu Ain (J-QAF) that have been taught since elementary school.

In his welcoming remark Prof. Dato’ Sri Dr. Syed Arabi said that the conference is aimed to put emphasis on the Islamization of the Arabic Language & Literature, which have greatly contributed to the civilization of the Muslim community. He also added that local student’s ability to master the Arabic language has significantly increased and this has shown that they are on par with students from other Muslim countries.
